What makes a good comment

What I think you need when your making a quality comment on someone’s blog is a question to keep the conversation going, state your opinion, tell a fact or say something about what the post is about and if the person who made the post has put a question in their post you should answer it.

I have made a collage about what a quality comment should look like.

Image Analysis

Hello everyone, today I’m going to be doing a image analysis. I’m going to be talking about what I see, think and wonder about this picture. This picture was made in 1864 by S.T Gill.

What I see in the picture is that there are two aboriginal men hiding behind bushes/trees holding spears. I also see that there are 2 emus eating the grass. There are a lot of weeds, trees and bushes lying around. The sky looks pretty dark aswell.

I think that the two men  are hunting the emus for dinner. I think they will throw the spear at the Emu and hit it right in the tummy. Then they will carry the dead Emus and roast them on a fire.

I wonder what the aboriginals are thinking. I also wonder how the Emus will react when the two aboriginal men throw the spears.

About me

My name is Oscar and I am 10 years old and I live in Australia.

Some of my hobbies are footy, surfing, basketball and nippers.  I play basketball all year and nippers during summer. Recently I went to the state nipper championships and came 2nd in the u11 board race. I surf whenever I can when i’m at the beach. I play footy all year but during footy season I play in a team with all my school friends and a few people that are from other schools.

My favourite subject at school is P.E because I love sport. This year I will be writing about what I have been doing at school.

Avatar

An avatar is a character that represents you on the internet.

I mad my avatar have blond hair because I have blond hair. I also made my avatar have no eye brows because it looks like I have no eyebrows. My eyebrows are a really light colour. I like blue so I chose blue pants and shoes.

Library Term 1 reflection

This term in library i enjoyed reading my book chat book The Crossover. I didn’t love it but it was alright. It was mostly in a poem and I’m not that interested in poems. I liked reading the book Middle school at home as well. It was about a boy called rafe that won a trip to Australia by a drawing competition. He said he didn’t want to go in the water at the beach because he thought that a shark would eat him.
I like reading books that are about sport because I love playing sport. I would recommend the book footy fever. Footy fever is a you choose book which means about every 2 pages you choose a pathway to go and you can find every path through the book.

Community service

This term we have been doing some community service. We had to do some chores at home to raise money for blankets. We had to make at least $20. I picked up my dogs poo, fed my dog and kept my room tidy. I raised 20 dollars. After that we had to go on the chemist warehouse website and make a tally of what we want to get for the homelessness. Some examples that we bought were nappies, toothpaste, toothbrush and hand sanitiser. Then we had to sew some blankets for them. It was hard work but it paid off. After we finished that, we all got together and handed all the stuff we bought to Peter. It was a great experience. How did you like the experience?

Dear Future Year 4s

Dear future year 4s,

I hear you’re coming up to year 4 next year.

Here’s 3 things you need,

. You need resilience because if something doesn’t work then you will need to try again and work out why it isn’t working.

. You need courage so you can persevere what you’re worried about. I was worried about my teachers and how they were but I eventually got along with them.

. You need to put in your best effort with every piece of work you do because then you won’t get any better at anything.

Two things to look forward to are,

. Camp because as always it is amazingly fun and there are lots of fun activities at Mt Everlyn like, giant swing, massive hike, bike riding, holding animals and a scavenger hunt.

. You should look forward to going to an aged care facility. You catch a bus to the facility then normally some people can get perform a music piece to all the elderly. Then you get a buddy and tell them lots of stuff about you.

A time I laughed was when the teacher showed us a funny video called Nelson’s Cheese. It was about a mouse who got trapped by a mouse trap then used as a bench press.

A time when I was challenged was when we were doing a maths lesson and I got stuck with the elapsed time. I needed resilience to get that done.

I am proud of how much I improved my hand writing and got my pen licence. I am also proud of how much I improved my maths. I am a lot better at my division and times tables.

I always remembered Mrs. Haines and Mrs. Burns saying don’t give up and try again. I followed what they said and got it done.

Nativity play

This term we have been making a play about Jesus and how he was born. First we had to use our knowledge to write the scrips from scene 1 to 12. Then we voted for who we wanted to get what part. I made scene 5 with Tom. After we read over everyone’s in order from scene 1 to 12. Then the teachers made them into a play and we brought in our costumes and props for it. I was the inn keeper 1.

We had to use our imagination to make all the props we couldn’t bring in with cardboard. Then we painted all of them and let them dry over night.

Judging information books

This term we have been judging the CBCA short listed information books. I think a good information book has to have great pictures, a great layout and lots of information. The information has to be up to date, accurate and very interesting. The pictures have to match the writing and have lots of colour. The layout has to be clear, creative and the font easy to read.

The book that I chose was Waves by Donna Rawlins, Mark Jackson and Heath Potter. I gave waves a 30/30 because it matched all the things that I said before, like the pictures matched the writing, the layout was creative and it had great information. All the other books were still great but just didn’t match Waves.

What book did you vote for?

Come and Meet the Scientist

The last few weeks we have been in our groups doing a science experiment. My group was David and Tom. Our experiment was to find out which material can hold the most weight out of neoprene, tulle and pleather. It turns out that pleather holds the most weight with 32kg. The neoprene held 23kg and tulle held 11. It was really fun as well. We had to nail the material into the box then lay the weights down on the material until it breaks. My group showed resilience because we kept getting it wrong but we didn’t give up. We have a day when parents can come in and see what we have been doing called meet the scientists. It is at the 4HB classroom from 2:15-3:00pm on Monday the 9th of September.

Is your experiment to do with weights?
